2012 is off to a great start, but it has been slow going here on the blog. I have some goals set for the year and I hope to use this as a place to share those and watch some things I have been dreaming up come to life. I am excited about this year and committed to growing and evolving in my photography.

I couldn't image a better first post of 2012. This sweet little guy is new in 2012 too, 1-2-12 to be exact...a great birthday. And he is not only adorable with a great birthday, he is super special to me. He was longed for and prayed for and celebrated and prayed for some more. He was a joy to shoot and I just love him so much ...and that hair!

The last few weeks have been crazy around here and I'm sure crazy for you too. I have been excited to get back to blogging and sharing a few pictures from some great sessions.

These sweet girls were a laugh a minute. They are so funny and I was giggling right along side them. There were laughs, candy canes, balloons and cupcakes. That makes for a great day!

I was so excited last week to head to Conway and meet this sweet senior. I love some change of scenery and this was just that. Some great spots that I can't wait to go back to and check out further.

I also LOVE red hair and it was so amazing with the fall color.

Did I mention super fun locations? We got to end our shoot at a family friends barn and while there was plenty to love about it I was especially partial to this old tractor...so adorable.

Thanks for showing me some great spots and smiling through the cold air and wind.

dates and deadlines...43 days til Christmas

dates and deadlines are not my specialty, but in order to keep on task i am going to give it a try.

November 11th....last day to order and have possibility of being back before Thanksgiving

December 12th...last day to order and have back before Christmas

I generally say give me two weeks for delivery, my printer is pretty fast, but I have minimum order amounts with them and have to factor in my time getting the order in and checking and packaging once it is in.

I will be out of pocket from November 13-17 & November 19-24. This means I will try to still check my email and respond in a timely manner, but will not be working.

I also plan to not work from December 18-31, this does not include order delivery or any sessions that are already booked.

From the second we pulled up at this location I was in love. It is pretty rare for me to shoot in a place that I didn't have some hand in picking, or have at least seen before. I had total faith that it would be amazing, I had seen a few pictures and Ms Molly has a great photographic eye, but it exceeded all expectations. I was in awe as I walked around every corner.

Molly was great to work with, willing to climb on things and sit in questionable areas. And she didn't even mock me for how excited I was about these dilapidated buildings....she was even excited with me.

On top of the location we were also working with great clothes (five changes), amazing weather, and she is pretty cute too (or gorgeous). Other than the horses, which I am apparently attractive to and scared of, it was a perfect shoot.

I could have and still could go on and on, but we were forced to stop by total darkness.

I'm sure I have mentioned in the past that one of my favorite things about working with my family is that I can use fun ideas I have in my head and have some input on clothes and they usually are up for whatever. My brother's wife is great with clothes and we have pretty similar likes and interest and so once again it was super fun to work with them.

Though things that would work with kids that don't know me are lost on my nieces and nephews, who know me too well, I do know what they think is funny and so I can usually get a smile or even a giggle.

This year I took my brother and his family to the zoo. It really is a pretty spot and a great place to watch a family be a family, I love that. We stopped along the way to check out some of our favorite animals. The giraffes were in rare form and kept standing behind them as we took photos. My nephew was having a very hard time not turning around to watch, but was pretty excited that the giraffe would be in the family photo.

We had the added bonus of some cool rides outside the zoo, set up for Boo at the Zoo. Unfortunately they were not running until that night, but still a pretty fun backdrop.

In my dream world I can dance, but in reality it is not where I am gifted. Fortunately I am lucky enough to experience the gifts of others.

Last week I met up with this beautiful senior and got to photograph her and capture her gift.

I was excited to get to know her and thrilled when she pulled out her tap shoes and we made a plan to end our time together with a sunset and some leaps (jumps?).

Thanks so much for spending this time with me and putting up with "one more time".

Last week I caught up with this family at their beautiful home. I love to shoot at a home and really bring in the personality of a family, we are all so comfortable in our own space.

This home was amazing inside and out and after my time with them I am thinking this family is pretty amazing too.

These boys had me cracking up the same way my own boys do. The silly jokes and faces that I can really appreciate as a fellow boy mom.

Last week was CRAZY (mdo photos, pumpkin contest, photo shoots, and fall festival) so I am hoping to play lots of catch up this week.

When I met up with this family at the end of the summer i was so excited about the plans we made. We were taking some formal photos and a few family shots and then we took some fun shots in the lake behind the family home (this mama was on a yolo board in a formal gown). They have lots of water toys and my mind was spinning with all the fun we could have. Unfortunately we ran out of daylight, but last week we met up again to get some great backyard shots with the family canoes....love!

I think the photos show a family that loves to be together and be outside. I know these kiddos and I love the personality that can't help but come across. Today these pictures are making me smile.

it's fall! i love the weather and the clothes and i love, love, love the opportunity to work with families again. this adorable little man is now two and half and i can't believe how the time has flown since i first photographed him two years ago.

the last two years we have worked in a more urban setting. it was so much fun to do something more earthy and really give this little man some room to run. changing up location can really direct the feeling of the photos and is a great way to update family photos.

I have been so excited to share this years Christmas card options. These templates are for 5x7 flat or folded cards (a 4x6 flat card can be made and mailed as a postcard with $0.28 postage). The colors and text on these cards are customizable and can be matched to your photos.

i LOVE sweet Zeke so much already. we took these photos at eight days and he was an absolute dream to work with. we took a few with the same banners that i used in the family photos i took last month, just before his arrival.

he let me move him all around and snoozed almost the whole time.

even when he was awake he was so relaxed and even threw me a peace sign.

sweet kate's oldest brother was my first baby. i didn't give birth to him, but as my bestie's first baby and the first baby i spent significant time with i count him as my first (honorary) baby.

and now kate has a special place in my heart as the first girl in the McG family.

beach part 1 (gulf shores, alabama photographer)

It has taken me longer than planned to start sharing the beach photos from our time last week in Gulf Shores. I have been so excited to share, but it has also taken a little while to get back in the groove, out of vacation mode, and tie up some loose ends from before the trip. I am sharing the Jackson family first, though they were not the first family I photographed, they were the reason we ended up in Gulf Shores. I ran into Gretchen a few months ago in Target and we started talking about her family's upcoming beach trip and planning photos for their time in Gulf Shores. I was intrigued and among other coincidences their trip was on a week that Peter and I had already set aside as a family vacation, but without any specific plans.

So we made a plan and turned our family vacation into a working vacation. That is if you can call playing in the sand and water with my camera and some awesome families working.

I had such a great time with this gorgeous family. I have been wanting to photograph them for years. In fact I photographed their older son Morgan about three years ago and it was my very first blog post here.

Time flies.

i thought about putting no words. i am not good with words and my love for this sweet girl is beyond.

she is a friend, my boy's favorite sitter, Campbell's future wife, and a truly lovely lady.

it was a gift to me to be able to photograph her in all her cuteness on our recent trip to Colorado. we washed our hair in a bucket the night before and she rolled with it. i don't know many people who could work that out, i covered my hair with a hat all week.

From the moment Christine approached me about photographing her family I was excited. It was a rare opportunity to photograph a family with no children and a sweet idea to surprise her parents with a family photo for their thirtieth wedding anniversary.

It was 98 degrees when we met up Saturday evening and though we were all wet from the heat they managed to laugh about it and we all had a great time.
To my delight they arrived back from their wardrobe change cooled off and with props....i love a good prop.

And I love a family who laughs together and at each other.

The spot we ended our shoot just happened to have some leftover boxes for box sledding and to my delight Christine and Chris were all in.

So fun!

chinos in colorado

Alison and i have talked for a long time about doing their family pictures at a campground with the pop-up. It never seems to work when we are trying to plan fall photos around football, soccer, school and so on. When we decided to tag along on the chino family camp trip this summer it felt like the perfect opportunity.

I love to tell a family's story when I take their pictures. To walk away and feel like you would know them better or at all just by seeing the images. It is a perfect thing to me when that story is told by a look, personality, clothes, location....and even better when the worlds all come together.

That is what this session is for me. It tells a story of this family and captures them as who they are (except maybe Cole's shirt...not his fav).

They are a family who knows each other and loves to be together. A family who laughs together and rolls eyes at each other.

A family who loves the outdoors, Colorado, gear, Chacos and their camper.

They are a family i love.

Today I am heading out of town for a week, a girl trip with very little Internet and a week without my computer. I am so excited about the trip and the break, but couldn't stand to leave without sharing a few pics from this session. I loved this sweet brother and sister and how adorable they were with each other. I heart a sweet big brother.

This little girl had so much personality and so many cute faces. I will be anxious to get back to work and see all those faces.

My hubby is a ton of help to me in my work as well as in life. I really don't give him nearly enough props for his artistic help and amazing support. He often goes along with me to weddings to be my second shooter during the ceremony and offers extra hands for a busy day. This is a shot from a recent wedding...I love that he is striking a pose for me.

I am a lucky girl to have such a great husband and partner.

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon when these two exchanged vows at the Arkansas Art Center.

Tyler and Cassie planned an intimate family wedding in the outdoor garden of the Art Center and then a super fun reception with friends, family, food and lots of dancing.

I couldn't help but share this amazing pic of the bride and her sisters and new sister-in-laws. These ladies were rocking some serious shoes...love!

It really was a joy filled day and I enjoyed every second with this gorgeous couple.

We are having a combined birthday party for our boys this weekend and with all the spray painting, hot gluing and all around party planning I have not spent much time working this week. I am tying up some loose ends, but that's all. It has left the blog a little neglected, but I didn't want to go into the weekend without sharing a pic from the amazing wedding i got to shoot last weekend.

i love the art center as a wedding venue and we really had fun with the beauty of the indoor and outdoor spaces. Promise to share more early next week, but for now I am on to make goody bags and get popcorn.

This week at i heart faces it is favorite faces of March. I don't like to pick favorites, i love all the faces i get to work with, but i shot these bridals in March and the wedding was this past weekend (i will share from that soon) and it is heavy on my mind.

I love, love, love this dress and the way the bride is totally working it out...I love profile and she has a great one....as well as a seriously beautiful back.

I have known Rob since junior high and I was so excited to have the chance to get to take these engagement photos of he and his beautiful fiance.

They are a precious couple and it was a treat to have this time with them.

Lauren told me, when talking about a location, that she wanted to capture the beauty of Arkansas in the spring. We found some great spots and had a gorgeous seventy degree day.

I heart spring.

While getting in position for some of the photos in this field we reminisced about some good old dog town days and how Rob and his friends took a picture like this at all of our high school dances.

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of being a part of something truly wonderful. Our close friends had the joy of officially adding two precious girls to their family. I got to be there as they witnessed to the love they have for their children and to hear the judge call them for the first times by their new names.

To say that this all seemed meant to be would really be a great understatement. The girls have come into this family so effortlessly and they all fit together in such a perfect way.

I am overjoyed. I am brought to tears.

One of my favorite things about working with a couple is to see who and how they are with each other. I love hearing their story. And I adore seeing the look. There is a way we react to those closest to us and it is a beautiful thing and something that we ourselves are probably not even aware of.

This couple so naturally looked to each other and were just enjoying each other. I do have pictures of them not looking at each other, but I just couldn't help but want to share all of their sweet looks.

We met up for a few pics in a beautiful field...with an unbelievable sunset and then made our way to the Wildwood Lantern Festival. It was not what we expected...not so many lanterns, but it was beautiful and really fun.

over the snow days i made my boys pose for some valentine pics. we printed a few pics to give as their valentines and they are cracking me up. it goes against my "normal" style to say stand here, hold this....and it was not going over great with my little models either....they are stinkers.

Playing a little catch up as I am finally getting back in the swing of the boys being back in school. I have been so excited to share these bridal pics of Sara that we took in December. The space we were working with was amazing and this girl really knew how to work it...leaving us with gorgeous images.

We shot the majority of the pics inside, it was about 40 degrees outside, but i couldn't resist this view and a few outdoor shots.

I have made no bones about the fact that I love these three (4 with Zeke the dog) and think they are all pretty easy to look at too.

We met up last week and I am crazy about the images we got.

Then thanks to Amy we took a picture to go in the growing series of sweet Abe on her lap. I laughed to myself as I thought about how funny it will be to sit him there when he is 18.

I am wishing a big congrats to Mark and Sara who were married on Saturday, January 8th 2011. I was excited for my first wedding of 2011 and it didn't hurt that I was working with a lovely couple at an unbelievable venue.

From the second I saw how Sara and Mark looked at one another I knew we were going to have lots of fun together. They are so crazy about each other and totally lost in the moment.

I could do a whole post on shots from this next room. AMAZING!

This family was my last family session before Christmas. We met up on a VERY cold afternoon and tried our best to stay warm. I think they worked it out and don't at all look cold, they do however look gorgeous. Such a beautiful family! And really wonderful people too.

With a mom and dad that look like this there is no doubt that they have beautiful children...but come on! they are so cute.

Double props here because it is truly 35 degrees and AJ is rocking that sleeveless dress with a smile.

So thankful for an amazing Fall full of great families.

I am so thankful for the time I got to spend behind my camera this year. I got to see people I love get married, experience new life, new lives together, and be with amazing families, but one of my favorite things is that I got to be in front of the camera way more than usual and capture this moment in time with our families.

The pictures we have of all 17 of us (the Loibner family) are few and far between, and usually thrown together, so I am so thankful for this picture.

And the same is true with my family. The last time we had a picture together was before Reese was born.

2010 was a great year!

I met up with this gorgeous couple on Saturday. It was a little hit or miss with the weather all day Saturday, but we decided to go for it and I am so glad we did. It was windy, which they totally worked, and we ended up having amazing light and unbelievable skies.

With the wind came the cooler temperatures, pretty sure the temp dropped 10-15 degrees in our few hours together, but it made for some great cuddling shots. We even toughed it out for some after dark time...totally worth it!

I am so digging the low light photos at the moment.

When I reworked my website I added a few new products. The one I am most excited about is this session album. It is a 7x7 paperback book that features up to 30 of the photos from your session. This is a fun little book that is printed similarly to a paperback story book. This is not a replacement to a true album, it is really just a fun way to remember our time together.

The photos can be in several different layouts to highlight your session.

I love the thought of a family i work with every year having a stack of these adorable little books.

it is an all together crazy time of year. family, work and all kinds of fun. i love it, but sometimes i feel like i have to remind myself to take a minute to breathe.

on saturday night i met up with this adorable couple (i love them!) and we enjoyed a stroll around town and some beautiful weather.

i got to hear all about their big day and the excitement of planning the future.

i got to see the way they look at each other.

and i got to have my breath taken away.

as i look at the picture below i have to remind myself to take a deep breath and enjoy this wonderful thing i get to do.

When I opened my google reader this morning and saw that this week on i heart faces the category is paper I knew exactly what I had to do. I know I have put this photo on my blog before, but it is one of my favorite family pics ever. There are lots of things I love about it...clothes, color, light, i love these people....but my favorite part is that when I pulled these books out as a prop for the pictures they all jumped right in, no faking it, and I think you can see it all over their faces. I am crazy about my parents! It certainly doesn't hurt their case that they just took me along on a trip to New York, but it really is just because they are pretty wonderful...and so darn cute. We spent four days last week together and I managed to grab these two pics of their cuteness. It was an amazing trip and I could not believe how beautiful the leaves still were in Central Park.

I am thankful for great parents and yellow leaves.

I am heading out of town this morning, a fun little getaway with my parents. I will be off until Friday so forgive me for no more blogging this week and if it takes me a while to answer emails or phone calls.

i am truly blown away by the fact that it is November and that in 2 short weeks it will be Thanksgiving. like most of you it has sneaked up on me and it is time to make some Christmas orders.
here are some Christmas card options. these options can be mixed and matched and slightly customized into 4x6 or 5x7 flat or folded cards (a 4x6 flat card can be mailed as a postcard with $0.28 postage). all sides of the cards are press printed and can include a combination of photos and text. we have already designed the Chinos card and so Alison was nice enough to let me use their photos for my templates.

Cards include envelopes and are sold in sets of 25

flat cards.....$2 per card

folded cards......$3 per card

i have a few other Christmas card options that include a 4x8 photo card, a low res digital image, and discounted 4x6s...contact me for info.
*cards take approximately 1 week and all other print orders take around 2 weeks, the expected time extends the closer we get to Christmas.
* i will be out of town 11/15-11/18 and will not take orders during that time.
*orders for Christmas must be in by December 11th (that is 1 month from today)

Fall is such a crazy time. Between Halloween, pumpkin patches, school parties, soccer, tennis, and general fall fun it is also my busiest season for work. Today as I crank through some serious editing I am so thankful for a job that I love and one I can do from home. Thankful that I get to work with wonderful people and see beautiful moments.

Can you believe it is November? I am going to try to remember to be thankful daily.

I am skipping over a few sneak peeks because I cannot wait to share about my session from yesterday. I have had this family on my calendar for a while and we had planned for yesterday hoping to get some fall color in late October. Instead we were met with one of the only days of rain in the last few months. This sweet mom and I both watch the weather all day hoping the rain would pass over or just not show up at all. At 4:45 we met up on the lawn of the Presidential Library and as we got out of our cars we began to see lightning in the distance. We decided to go on, watch the weather and hope for the best. The sky was unbelievably gorgeous and left us with AMAZING light. 20 minutes in we were surprised by the tornado siren.... I couldn't make this up if I tried.... apparently the tornado siren is also on the lawn of the library (LOUD) and so we headed to the Library. We found shelter in the basement with 2 security guards and a few other employees. We were there for 45 minutes and enjoyed a good laugh over our crazy time together. No real tornado...just crazy wind and lots of rain and lightning. It was an adventure to say the least. I am thankful for the 20 minutes (plus 45) I did have with this family and for the beautiful images we managed to get in our short time together.

And just because it was so wild.

I am so crazy about these pictures! I love the spot, an old favorite that i haven't used in a while, and i love the clothes. This is the third year I have photographed this family and this mom is really great with the clothing choices...i think better every year. And to my delight she emails me a picture of what the kids are going to wear before the shoot...i LOVE that...and it helps me think about what to do and where to go. I love to be with people and want people to be who they are and comfortable, but clothes do matter and these clothes just work.

It doesn't hurt that these kiddos are adorable and had me cracking up.

And that I brought along some balloons for a little extra fun.

I can't even talk about this tutu.....i adore it!

I really love a family picture where you can see a family reacting to each other. I know it is not what is typically the ideal, but it is ideal to me. I think the above pic is so sweet!

These two cuties were so much fun and kept me on my toes. We had a great time running around and checking out the leaves, acorns and sticks. I might have even let them throw a bunch of leaves on top of their parents.

I've been looking for a while for a new set of doors to use for the Chino family. I am still so in love with the pictures we took two years ago in doors and thought it would be so fun to do again. I found these doors more than a year ago, but forgot about them until a few weeks ago. I think they worked perfectly and I was crazy about these yellow wild flowers that were all around.

These are my people and I love them dearly so they would probably be cute to me know matter what they were doing, but come on! They are so cute!!!!

Last week I got to catch up with this sweet family. When their oldest daughter and Wilson were just babies we were in a community group together and their boys were so little then. And the youngest was not even around yet, boy does time fly. We got to get together while their oldest son was in town from California (though in my mind he is still about 13). CRAZY!

On Sunday night I met up with the Kelton family. I was very excited for this session because Amy Kelton is not just a lovely mom and Kindergarten teacher she is also a local photographer. It is always exciting and intimidating to photograph a photographer, these guys were so great and comfortable in front of the camera. It was a pleasure to get to capture this family and I got to bring along my little camera collection to play around with.

what's for dinner.....Zuppa Toscana

The moment there is the slightest chill in the air I pull out this recipe. Alison introduced me to it a few years ago and it is one of my absolute FAVORITES! After falling in love with this soup I realized it is actually a recipe for a soup served at Olive Garden, I don't frequent Olive Garden.

You will need....
1 lb. spicy Italian Sausage (I use pork sausage, but have made it with turkey...not as much flavor)
1 qt. water
4 cups of chicken broth
2 large potatoes (i used 6 small golden potatoes and left the skin on)
2 cloves garlic
1 medium onion
2 cups kale (I use 1 bunch)
1 cup heavy whipping cream

Cube potatoes, garlic and onion and put them in a pot with water and chicken broth on medium heat. Cook until potatoes are soft, from room temperature mine cooked for about 30 minutes.

While that is cooking brown sausage and drain off fat. When potatoes are tender add the sausage and cook for 10 minutes. Then add kale and slowly add whipping cream. Cook until heated through.

SO GOOD! Enjoy.

I had the best time last night with the Jones family. Last time I photographed them was two years ago. We had a great time then, too, but this time was even more relaxed and comfortable. I love that about working with a family for a second time. Also, because I know them, it makes it easier to have a little fun. I'm crazy about this chalk board my sister in law made for me and had a fun plan for using it in our pics. I had each person in the family pick a word that described who or how they were in their family. LOVE THESE!!!

We just got home yesterday from a trip to Disney World and I wanted to share a few pictures (sharing more on our family blog). Before I left last week I took these first two pictures for a sweet friend who has a business making lots of adorable goodies for little ones. She made the above Disney inspired clothes for Reese and Campbell to wear on our trip.

They looked so cute! I wished we had matching dresses and shirts for every day. And I think Minnie and Mickey were digging them too.

This last picture I am sharing because this was the way Campbell's face looked for the majority of our trip. Loving it!

Last week I shared a few pics from my super fun shoot with Kyran Pittman and I am finally back with a few more. I met Kyran, two of her friends, and a few pieces of luggage downtown and we shot at a perfect location with three wonderful wardrobe changes. I love clothes and these were so perfect. I am crazy for the necklace below.

It is such a treat to photograph someone when they are going through something so exciting. As I edited these I felt like I could see in Kyran's eyes the thrill of all she is currently experiencing.

It is a beautiful thing to watch a dream come true.

Kyran Pittman

Last night I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to spend the evening photographing the beautiful Kyran Pittman. Kyran is a blogger who lives in Little Rock and has written a book that will be coming out next year. It was one of the best experiences I have had at a photo shoot, maybe because of the stylist and extra eyes to make sure every hair was in place. I worried all day through the rain, but by the time we met it had stopped and we were left with a gorgeous golden light.
